Essex Tapestries
Description: Essex was an American whaler from Nantucket, Massachusetts, which was launched in 1799. In 1820, while at sea in the southern Pacific Ocean under the command of Captain George Pollard Jr., she was attacked and sunk by a sperm whale. Thousands of miles from the coast of South America with little food and water, the 20-man crew was forced to make for land in the ship's surviving whaleboats. The men suffered severe dehydration, starvation, and exposure on the open ocean, and the survivors eventually resorted to eating the bodies of the crewmen who had died. When that proved insufficient, members of the crew drew lots to determine whom they would sacrifice so that the others could live.

Description: When the Tri-Lambs left Adams College to attend the 1987 United Fraternity National Convention in Fort Lauderdale, they learned that their reservations at the upscale Royal Flamingo Hotel had been given to the Alpha Betas and that the property doesn't want to be associated with nerds. After looking around with no luck, the displaced Tri-Lambs find a place willing to take them in by the name of Hotel Coral Essex. Sure, it's located in a shady part of town and getting robbed and/or stabbed is a possibility at any time, but hey, it's still on the beach. Thanks to the hospitality of the Hotel Coral Essex, the nerds were not only able to attend the conference, but were able to through one of the biggest bashes in Fort Lauderdale history.

Description: USS Essex is a aircraft carrier of United States, first commissioned in 1942. This vintage naval artwork depicts a Pacific sea with a straight flight deck, naval aircraft and distant destroyer escorts. Weathered steel, directional light and foaming waves give the main vessel depth and a sense of movement, while ship-name lettering and a country emblem complete the composition. A historical illustration for naval enthusiasts, maritime collectors and military history readers. Every image in this collection is created with care and the intention of making its details as complete and historically accurate as possible.
