Idf Tapestries
Description: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF; Hebrew: צְבָא הַהֲגָנָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל Tsva ha-Hagana le-Yisra'el, lit. 'The Army of Defense for Israel'), alternatively referred to by the Hebrew-language acronym Tzahal (צה״ל), is the national military of the State of Israel. It consists of three service branches: the Israeli Ground Forces, the Israeli Air Force, and the Israeli Navy. It is the sole military wing of the Israeli security apparatus. The IDF is headed by the Chief of the General Staff, who is subordinate to the Israeli Defense Minister.

Its design is mid-century modern graphic style that draws on European modernist and expressionist poster traditions. It uses bold, simplified silhouettes, a limited high-contrast palette, and direct pictorial symbolism for a clear public safety message. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

This poster is part of the mass recruitment effort around Israel’s declaration of independence and the 1948-1949 War of Independence, when the newly formed authorities called on youth to register and volunteer. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
