Description: KOYL 98 FM went on the air April 5, 1966, in Odessa, Texas, broadcasting an easy listening format during the day and a country format at night over their 34,000-watt transmitters. In 1979, KOYL was sold and moved into a new building and where new studios and production spaces were built out. Additionally, a new transmitter between Odessa and Midland was constructed and enabled the station to upgrade to 100,000 watts. The upgraded station relaunched as KUFO in 1980 with an album-oriented rock format. The station quickly grew in popularity and became a ratings success, but despite this, the station was sold again in 1985, marking the end of KUFO.
