'The HQ model Monaro's new coupé design had a much larger rear window and a squarer rear quarter window; it was somehow seen as not as sporty looking compared to the earlier HK-HT-HG series, but is often now considered one of the best looking body designs to come from an Australian manufacturer.' Description: The General Attacks! Based on the 1968 HK Holden Kingswood, this beautifully styled coupe could be powered by the Holden straight six, or as in the GTS version, a Chevrolet 327 cubic inch V8 and four-speed manual transmission. With Ford winning the 1967 Bathurst 500 race with its first Falcon GT model (powered by a Mustang 289 cubic inch V8), Holden hit back by winning the 1968 enduro. And comfortably too: the first four placings were Monaro GTS, Monaro GTS, Monaro GTS, Monaro GTS. This was the first outright Bathurst 500/1000 win by Holden.
