Description: This was taken earlier this year. Whilst the ground might seem quite hard with frost, you can see just how wet it was below the surface. Free meal for the gulls. What is it with them and a plough? It's as though they can smell them, as they appear seemingly from nowhere. Taken in Lancashire, NW England Sony DSC-HX1
Description: These two lilies don't always both open up on the same day. Today for instance the one in the background has remained closed, the day before this one was taken, the one in the foreground had remained closed. So conditions must have been ideal for both to open up when this was taken yesterday. There is a third. We shall have to wait and see what happens there. Description: I think this is one of my favourite photos of 2019. A WW2 era P-51 Mustang and her modern day successor the F-35A Lightning II in a Heritage Flight formation during San Francisco Fleet Week. The Mustang, Wee Willy II first flew in 1944 and in addition to taking part in the Heritage Flights, also races at Reno, not bad for a 75 year old! California Sony DSC HX400V

Description: The sign at the entrance to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco I've probably looked at this picture dozens of times but it was only today I spotted an owl in there. Maybe if any locals see this they might be able to tell me how long the owl has been a 'fixture'. Do my eyes deceive me or is there also a rodent of some description over the owl's right shoulder? If I had seen these when taking the picture, I could have zoomed in and got them in focus. But I never even noticed them at the time. !http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn93/intenselygentle/138.jpg!
Description: Karl The Fog was making his presence felt on this particular day. When I was inside The Bay, you could only just see the road deck. By the time I had walked around to Baker Beach on the other side, Karl had receded a little, enough to get a couple of pictures, by the time I had got to Marshall Beach, the bridge was almost gone again. Description: 3 March 2011 Lancashire NW England The same hedge bottom where these are located has snowdrops in flower much earlier this year - since 7 January. Are they wild? Snowdrops don't colonise by seeding except possibly in very mild conditions and so it is more likely that they were planted as bulbs at some point along this particular hedge bottom, beside a farm track, where they have been left to do their own thing. Their blooms should not be taken indoors, as it is said to bring bad luck and have been described as a 'Corpse in its shroud' An old wives tale? I don't know, but won't be tempting fate.
