Description: Leioproctus zephyr is a rare, specialised bee found only in the southwest WA biodiversity hotspot. Discovered and described by Dr Kit 'Bee Babette' Prendergast, she decided to name it after her much beloved maremma dog, Zephyr.

It is named for its devilish horns, because Kit loves the Netflix show Lucifer, and because it means light bringer in Latin, and she hopes this discovery brings to light the issues native bees face.
