Description: Walt Whitman, one of the nation’s greatest writers and observers of its people, started on the path to literary immortality in 1855, when he self-published “Leaves of Grass” from a corner in the city of Brooklyn (in modern-day Brooklyn Heights). The design was inspired by his image in the work’s first edition — controversial for its content and the image of an “intellectual” dressing like a common workingman — and by the typefaces used in the collection. (Note: There is also a version available for lighter colors in my store.)
