Description: "The Ever-Singing Dickcissel" I captured this stunning moment from my car window on June 3rd while exploring a quiet, rural dirt road. Perched high on a delicate branch against the soft morning sky, this beautiful male Dickcissel (Spiza americana) was completely lost in his melody, pouring his heart out into the open prairie air. You can practically hear his buzzing, rhythmic call through the crisp details of his vibrant yellow chest, black throat bib, and rich chestnut shoulders. The best place to find Dickcissels is in overgrown pastures, savannahs, and croplands in the central Great Plains.
