Description: Anticipating the Next Flying Insect by Debra Martz On January 6th the weather was beautiful so decided to take a quick trip over to Port Aransas, TX to see if any birds were around. There were not too many winter migratory birds with the exception of plenty Yellow-rumped Warblers and a few other species. These warblers were quite busy zipping off the branches and out to midair to capture flying insects. Here at Paradise Pond, where it is usually busy with birds, it is not so much now as most of the trees came down with Hurricane Harvery in August 2017. Description: Pretty All American Lamp Post Flowers and Flag by Debra Martz Spent a few days in Aztec, New Mexico mainly to visit the Aztec Ruins and explore some of the lesser known arches on the back roads. Had some extra time and spent several hours walking the historic downtown. We had made a day trip of backroads looking for lesser known natural arches north of Aztec, NM. Description: Tricolored Heron Angel Wings - Photopainting by Debra Martz This photopainting was create from my original photograph. I captured this heron from the Leonabelle boardwalk in Port Aransas, Texas. When they spread their wings it reminds me of beautiful angel wings. Tricolored Heron are beautiful with colors of blue-gray, lavender, white and yellowish legs. They are easily identifiable because unlike other dark herons, they have a white belly and white stripe down the middle (front) of its long neck. Description: Chickasaw Ballpark - Bricktown - O K C by Debra Martz At the hub of Bricktown in downtown Oklahoma City you'll find the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. It opened in 1998 and s the home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League baseball team. And you should be able to catch a ballgame here as the OKC Dodgers team plays 70 home games, April through September. Description: Prince of Nature - Utah by Debra Martz I was so fascinated by all of the formations discovered while hiking the Toadstool Trail in southern Utah. And yes, there were many that looked more like toadstools. But this stood out to me as a profile of a Prince due to the "golden crown with a feather" which adorned the top of the formation. Description: When the Clock Froze in Time by Debra Martz See the 'frost' on the clock hands? Well, it's actually not frost as in cold weather climates. It's simply salt...from the salt air due to living on the Gulf Coast in south Texas. The salt has a way of "freezing" many things....causing items to rust and stop working. Description: Formations and Reflections - Lake Powell by Debra Martz We took the fabulous boat tour to the Rainbow Bridge which is one hundred miles round-trip. It was a gorgeous day in late August with beautiful blue skies and water. We left from the Wahweap marina in Arizona, soon passed through a manmade channel into Utah, where most of the boat ride took place. There area many buttes, formations along the way. Description: I Love This Bar by Debra Martz We were on the boat tour in Bricktown entertainment disctrict of Oklahoma City, when I spotted Toby Keith's Bar And Grill. When we reached one end of the tour, we decided to walk back in order to spend some time at the bronze sculptures of the Land Run and the Chickasaw memorial. And of course, stop in here for lunch. The large quitar sign adorns both the riverside and another on the land side plus a lot of memorabilia inside. Dgital manipulations have been applied. Description: Cedar Waxwings Migrating North by Debra Martz We were at Paradise Pond in Port Aransas, Tx and I was tracking a Magnolia Warbler with my lens when my husband Doug called out, "Look up!" And of course, I did!! This is just a portion of the very large flock of Waxwings that flew over us. Happy to have seen this but sure would have been nice if they would have decided to circle around and land in a tree nearby. Obviously to early in the day to stop on their northbound migration on this day, May 14th. Cedar Waxwings are a shiny collection of brown, gray, and lemon-yellow, accented with a subdued crest, black mask, and brilliant-red wax droplets on the wing feathers. Description: Reflecting on Lake Powell by Debra Martz At the beginning of a full day on Lake Powell and already wowed by the beauty. We left the marina on a boat tour to the Rainbow Bridge, an one hundred mile round-trip, passed through a narrow channel and then to the wide open space on this huge and beautiful lake filled the rock formations on small islands. Description: Weeping Wall by Debra Martz One of my favorite short hikes was the Weeping Rock Trail; only 1/2 mile round trip but with a moderately steep climb to the Alcove. It begins in a surround of cottonwood, ash and maple trees but can become slippery at the top as there is moss on the rocks and walkway from the dripping springs. Description: Western View from Brian Head Peak - Cedar Breaks - Utah It seemed the views were never ending from Brian Head Peak in Cedar Breaks National Monument. At an elevation of 11,307 you can see for miles and miles and miles. This point of view is from the western edge of the peak with part of the Dixie National Forest just below to the right and Bryce Canyon in the far distance on the horizon to the left. We were driving along the Park Road in Cedar Breaks National Park, between overlooks, when this scene came into view! Description: Scenic Zion - Mount Carmel Highway Drive 6 The Great Arch by Debra Martz The Great Arch in Zion National Park is a large blind arch in the Navajo Sandstone. A blind arch is an arch of rock still attached to the rock face. It stretches about 600 feet across and about 400 feet high. If you traveled from the east on the Zion-Mount Carmel highway and just came through the 1.1 mile tunnel, you will see the Great Arch on the 2nd switchback going downhill.
