This permanent lighthouse and dwelling was designed by Chief Engineer with the Ballast Board, George Halpin, with some later alterations by Jacob Owen. The cost of the granite tower was £937. The light was established on 1st October 1847, 41 feet above high water, and of 12,000 candlepower. As early as 1877 there were suggestions for improving the power and range of the Kingstown lights. In 1892, the City of Dublin Steam Packet Company, which had a monopoly on the Holyhead-Kingstown mail route, complained to the Commissioners of the poor harbour lighting. One of the earliest monastic sites in Ireland, Ardmore, Co. Waterford was probably founded sometime in the 5th century AD by St. Declan. This early Irish saint was associated with the Déisi Muman people of Waterford and his missionary work amongst them may have pre-dated the activities of St. Patrick. His monastery the building on the right of the photo was built on height over-looking the Irish sea and today it contains a wide range of archaeological features. This aircraft was originally built as a single seat F.4 for the Royal Air Force, by Hawker Aircraft Ltd at its Kingston-upon-Thames factory. First flight was on 17th July 1955 Tragically on 22nd August 2015, whilst performing an air display at Shoreham, the hawker hunter crashed onto the A27 outside of the Airport in West Sussex hitting several vehicles, killing 11 people and injuring 14. The pilot himself was pulled from the wreckage was critically ill.

The town is dominated by the medieval Trim Castle, which was built by Hugh de Lacy in 1173. The largest Norman castle in Europe, it is now restored and visitors can access the 75ft square keep and grounds by guided tour.

Situated on the steep sloped Ballycotton Island approximately 2 km from the village, the lighthouse was commissioned in 1851 when the keeper and his family lived on the island and their children rowed to school weather permitting. By 1899 the four keepers were housed in the town with keepers rotating duty at the lighthouse. In 1975 the light was converted to electricity and it was automated on 28 March 1992 when the lighthouse keepers were withdrawn

Rory Gallagher ! (2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995) was an Irish blues and rock multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader. Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, and brought up in Cork, Gallagher recorded solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, after forming the band Taste during the late 1960s. He was a talented guitarist known for his charismatic performances and dedication to his craft. Gallagher's albums have sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide.Gallagher received a liver transplant in 1995, but died of complications later that year in London, UK at the age of 47.

This aircraft commemorates the original Dragon EI-ABI which operated Aer Lingus’ first service from Dublin (Baldonnel) to Bristol on 27 May 1936. That original aircraft was sold in the UK in February 1938 and was lost during WWII. This aircraft was built by De Havilland at Hatfield in early 1936 and its first flight was performed by Geoffrey de Havilland himself. Its Certificate of Airworthiness was issued on 18 April 1936, registered in the UK as G-AECZ, and it was operated by several small British operators until it was impressed into military service on 11 October 1939, being later allocated RAF serial AV982. It was restored to the civil register as G-AECZ on 18 June 1946, registered to Air Taxis Ltd of Croydon
