Description: These semi-sleeping African hunting dogs (Lycaon pictus) are rare animals and are not related to dogs. The other common name, Afrrican wild dog, has led to some concern that the name does not help the conservation of this species, so the name painted dog has been suggested. There seems to be more names for this animal than packs living in the wild! Photographed in South Africa, 2000. Originally taken on a Minolta X700. 100 views 20/04/2012

Description: Drax power station viewed from the north east. It is the biggest coal-fired power station in Western Europe, capabale of generating 3,900 MW and provides about 7% of the UK electricity supply. Because of its size, it is the UK's single largest emitter of carbon dioxide. In an attempt to reduce these emissions, the station is currently co-firing biomass (there were plans to build a biomass plant here as well, but this plan has recently been abandoned). It is hoped that the biomass consumption at Drax will increase from 12.5% to 20%. What price do we pay for electricity ? Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38 189 views 01/02/2013
