Description: Monnow Bridge in Monmouth, Wales, was completed in about 1270 and is the only remaining medieval fortified bridge in Britain with a standing gate tower. It crosses the River Monnow and is now pedestrianized, a scheduled ancient monument, and a Grade I listed building. Both the bridge and the gatehouse were comprehensively repaired in the 1770s, and the building ceased to be used as a dwelling in the early 1800s, after which the pedestrian access was made through the turrets. Description: A parental stoat in May emerging from his den, looking for another meal to keep the kids happy. This was taken from my window at work, near York, England. I left the camera on the window ledge and picked it up whenever I heard them. 519 views 21/07/2013 Featured in Close ups in Nature March 2012 Just Fun May 2012 British Wildlife May 2012 Nikon D70.
