Description: Graffiti artists do have a sense of humour - check the sign! This underbridge had recently been whitewashed and this was the first piece of graffiti to arrive. Description: Seen in Botswana in 2008, in Chobe national park on the border with Namibia. These animals (African elephants Loxodonta africana; impala Aepyceros melampus ) frequent the area for water - this is the dry season. In the wet season it is completely flooded. Also in the picture are babboon (Papio ursinus ) and hippos (Hippopotamus amphibius ). Originally taken on a Minolta X700. 171 views 01/02/2013 Featured in African Beauty June 2012
Description: These five young highland cattle were very curious when we walked passed, and kept this line for quite a while. Taken on a walk near Malham, Yorkshire, England. Description: A view of Saint Philip's Cathedral, central Birmingham, England. This is the western tower, completed in 1725. The church became a cathedral in 1905 when the diocese of Birmingham was created. It has a great glass west window, seen here photographed from inside and reversed and placed in position to emulate strong interior lighting. This is a 5 image HDR created in CS5, although the people and main window are masked out to show them from a single image. 239 views 17/04/2013. Panasonic DMC FZ38. Description: Taken on a trip to Botswana. Acinonyx jubatus. Capable of 75 mph sprint for a short distance before they overheat, these animals much prefer to spend time lazing about and staying cool. Why run in that heat unless you have to! Originally taken on a Minolta X700 516 views 07/11/2013
Description: I would greatly appreciate your coments on this image! Now here is an image of contrasts. We spend time in a wonderful African game park (Chobe in Botswana) and when we leave we drop all our rubbish in one place to be picked up later. The local wildlife know this is a great place to feast. This Chacma babboon (Papio ursinus) chased away a local dog to get this prize. Canon Powershot SD600. 501 views 04/07/2013
Description: A view of dandelion seeds blowing in the wind, as they pass a dandelion clock. Taken by Millennium Bridge, on the banks of the Ouse, York, England. Description: A masked HDR to show off the sky and grass in detail. A wonderful castle keep, originally built in 1068 in wood, burnt down in 1190 killing a large number of Jews who were seeking refuge, and then rebuilt again in the mid 1200s. Now owned by English Heritage. This is a masked HDR, with three exposures edited in CS5. In addition I have removed the annoying street furniture that you only realy notice when you take the picture. This was done by taking a separate photo of the nearby grass, matching it to the style of the 'HDR' grass and masking it to cover the pavement. Minor additional cloning to remove a bin etc. Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38. 532 views 21/01/2013 Challenge winner International Points of Interest June 2012 Featured in The Land...
Description: The best known street in York, shown at night with a near full moon (shot from the next road as it did not appear here!). Some of the buildings date from the 14th century, and the name derives from a shortening of the Anglo-Saxon "fleshammels" - shelves where flesh is kept. From this you may guess that this was originally a street full of butchers, and in some cases the shelves and meathooks can still be seen. 1147 views 21/01/2013 Pansonic DMC FZ38 Featured in The Best of Redbubble January 2013 Beautiful North of England group March 2012. Description: Taken November 2010 at the banks of the River Ouse in York, England. The background is the north-west base of Skeldergate Bridge. This river regularly floods, and always looks better in a photo than in real life. 3rd place in the Defra photo competition 2011 Panasonic DMC-FZ38. Description: An urban HDR, and an image that would not have worked without the bus stopping here. York Minster can be seen in the background. The odd colours and partial ghosting that can appear on people that have moved slightly in this level of HDR has been removed by painting back in the figures from one of the original images. This gives a more realistic image of the people, in a surreal landscape. Created in CS5 from 5 images. Panasonic DMC FZ38. 450 views 30/07/2013 Featured in Beautiful North of England May 2012
Description: This monument to the Battle of Nations, the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, commemorates Napoleon's defeat at the battle of Leipzig, in 1813, a crucial turning point in the Napoleonic Wars. This is an HDR image taken at dusk, with some retouching to remove bright orange fences and building material on the right hand side. Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38. 273 views 17/03/2013
Description: The famous frontal of York Minster in fine HDR. As with all my HDR images, fine details such as people are painted back in from one single image to create a more photorealistic image. York Minster is one the largest gothic cathedrals in Europe. The present cathedral was begun in 1230, but the site had been used for religeous buildings since 627. Trips to the roof are arduous, but give a great view of the surrounding vale of York.
