Watercolor painting of 'Sleeping Smaug', fanart based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien. It was made as a custom order for a great Tolkien fan from UK. I like how the golden glow and foreground details turned out. The way Smaug grabs his treasure with his wings was intended - I wanted him to look all greedy and malvolent even though his fast asleep. Original painting was painted on Fabriano Watercolor Paper (A2 size) using White Nights Watercolors. It took me about 40 hours to finish this artwork. I am going to make more Tolkien inspired illustrations in the future :) I will be happy to hear your suggestions!

Design made from an original illustration by Katarzyna Kmiecik. This illustration is my interpretation of the most amazing street of the imaginary world of Harry Potter's - Diagon Alley. It was drawn from imagination (inspired a little by the first HP movie) in mixed media, mostly markers. It stays really true to J.K. Rowling's description. The idea was to get people mesmerized by the intricate details and colors. My intention was to make them feel like they're in the scene, breathing the air (as much as I would love to be there myself). Wizarding street looks very busy, with the cauldrons stacked messily in front of the shop. Bright colors add a great sense of whimsy and make it look more magical! Transition between colored and black and white part makes it feel like like Harry and Hagrid are walking away from the shadows of the Nockturn Alley to the light magic of Diagon Alley.

Design made from an original watercolor illustration by Katarzyna Kmiecik. This is my older watercolor painting (from 2011) of Smaug the dragon, based on books by J.R.R. Tolkien. It's titled 'Smaug's Cave' and I love it so much that I kept the original for myself. I always wanted to create something similar to Alan Lee's works and I feel like a did a good job with this one. I made this artwork even before the first part of the book ecranisation came out! It has a rather cool composition and some nice colors I don't get to use very often while painting architecture or landscapes. I am going to make more Tolkien inspired illustrations in the future :) I will be happy to hear your suggestions!

This design was made from a pencil drawing is a very realistic and atmospheric vision of the future world (by Katarzyna Kmiecik). The idea was that our civilization had to leave Earth as it was polluted and destroyed beyond repair, and the last living people had to build a life for themselves from scratch on another planet (that's why there are three moons), in different galaxy. Architecture is situated in a barren landscape made of bathed rock. The building itself comes of as foreign and alien, with its smooth texture and strange shapes. Moon and lights makes the whole picture look mysterious and moody.

Design made from a mixed media illustration (black pen + black watercolor + white colored pencil) of cyborg, made in 2011 by Katarzyna Kmiecik. This black and white image shows an android woman that humankind had forgotten about somewhere in deep future. I think there's not a single human alive and she is lonely, sad and angry at the same time. Nobody has been here for a long time but her, alone. Not only her face, but the whole picture with its excellent lightning lets the viewer feel the sad and desolate mood. Android stays in the center of attention and somehow "speaks" to a viewer, even though the surroundings are very complex and detailed with all the construction elements such as girders, steel profiles, trapezoidal metal seets, air ducts, as well as cables and strange futuristic machinery.

Design made from a mixed media painting of IS-3 Stalin Tanks by Katarzyna Kmiecik. I know those are horrible weapons of war, but you have to admit that they have certain kind of beauty and nice proportions.

Design made from a pencil drawing by Katarzyna Kmiecik. Futuristic and eye catching vision of the future world with its buildings, complicated structures and advanced technology. Drawing in general looks very elaborate and well detailed. It has some realistic textures, as well as very accurate perspective. It also has exquisite crosshatching shading and dynamic pencil marks, that look both neat and elegant. Vapor cloud in the foreground and the beautiful sky, that overcast the scene, soften the hard edges of buildings and diversify the composition. This illustration harkens back to classic Sci Fi of the 20's and 30's, when technology was recognized for what it was - essentially benevolent. That is to say, if there were any corruption in it, it was because man himself was corrupt, and not because anything in technology could be.

Design made from a watercolor painting of 'Ruins in the forest' by Katarzyna Kmiecik. It's a very unique and atmospheric landscape created with a very limited color palette. The idea was to use only shades of green (mostly olive green) and violet for this painting. I also decided to put first layer of paint completely independently, before the sketch was even made, to make it look more loose and natural. Romantic ruins are in the centre of attention, but they don't overshadow the trees, which look very magical in all those greens and violets. I have almost no time to paint or draw this year, so it took me several months to complete this watercolor. It was a real chellange to make it fell like a whole, even though it was painted one hour at a time. I always had to quit before I really started to paint with pleasure (before I was 'in the zone' :P) and because of that I was affraid all the time that it will look like it was painted by more than one person - stylistically inconsistent and too detailed for a watercolor. I guess I didn't have to worry. My HUGE experience helped me not to ruin this painting, but it still may fell a little inconsistent due to the many different moods in which I was painting it (and some ofthem was very dark...). The original of 'Ruins in the forest' was painted on B2 watercolor paper (50x70 cm / 19.7" x 27.6") with White Nights and Windsor&Newton watercolor paints.

T-shirt design made from a watercolor painting of a wet forest path by Katarzyna Kmiecik. This peaceful scene will make you feel as if you're walking through the forest, gazing at its simple beauty, feeling the cool morning mist and the wet in the air. One could say it shows the poetry of solitude on a wet morning in the forest, as It really has a wonderful sense of atmosphere. Great layering of shades into the distance gives the picture good sense of depth and a feeling of quiet mystery. It also makes the endearing scene look more lifelike and adds a touch of fantasy.

T-shirt design made from pencil drawing of 'Jenga Tower Surrounded by Trees' by Katarzyna Kmiecik. Design shows Jenga tower in slightly different scale than we are accustomed to see. It has more 'human' scale - I set the dimensions of each Jenga block to be 300x100x60 cm. There are 12 levels of tower in the picture, so the whole construction is 12 metres high.

This T-shirt design was made out of pencil conceptual drawing (by Katarzyna Kmiecik) of a modern house with an amazing Porsche 911 at front. Concept of this building constitutes a sum of current trends in architecture - minimalism of form, huge overhangs and chosen finishing materials. This 'dream home' consists of three visible parts finished with plaster, wood and architectural concrete. It has a lot of glazing that opens to the surrounding landscape. House is situated in a terraced garden full of seemingly unkept greenery and rocks. Pine forest in the background highlights the body of the building and diversifies the composition. Eye-catching Porsche in the foreground makes the whole picture look more complete. Perspective lines are left visible and combine smoothly with the finished tone and shading, adding dynamism to the drawing. It would be an amazing gift for any architecture lover!

T-shirt design made from watercolor painting by Katarzyna Kmiecik. This watercolor landscape, called "Sun Embraced Trees', is one of my best landscape paintings. It's a very realistic, warm and bright watercolor forest with amazing moody sunset. Process of creation was a great pleasure to me, because I felt as if I was on a morning stroll in the woods. To paint it, was a well deserved rest after day of work.
