Surfers are advised not to paddle out over the pipe, especially when waves are approaching, as the water sucks out forcefully, creating a daunting experience for those caught over it. Description: Pismo Beach Pier in San Luis Obispo is an exposed beach break that has consistent surf. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. The best wind direction is from the northeast. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the west northwest. The beach break provides left and right handers. Best around high tide. Sometimes crowded. Take care of rips, rocks, locals and sharks.

Description: Toes Beach Jetty in Playa del Rey (PDR to locals) is the northernmost end of Playa del Rey. The beach was named by a group of local surfers one summer day circa 1961 as "Toes Over Beach," "Toes Beach" or just "Toes”, a name derived from the "toes over," "toes over the nose" or the Hang Ten surfing maneuver.
