Mavericks is one of the top big wave spots, it starts to work in large swells and can hold swells of 5 meters. The water is cold and shark infested, and the wave itself has claimed lives. It is only for the most experienced big wave surfers.
Description: Pismo Beach Pier in San Luis Obispo is an exposed beach break that has consistent surf. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. The best wind direction is from the northeast. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the west northwest. The beach break provides left and right handers. Best around high tide. Sometimes crowded. Take care of rips, rocks, locals and sharks.

The best tide is high tide and the wind is best from the west, southwest. The best time of the year is March to May. The best swell is 2 foot - 4 foot.
