Description: I was amazed by this pattern, caused by a persistent wind separating the lighter sand from the heavier sand, sculpting waves. I used a longer focal length to compress the scene into an illusion of liquid waves under the sky. It even looks like the wind is whipping the tops off the waves, as it does on the sea.

They adapt well to changing circumstances and will prey on just about anything that moves. They are very shy and usually very difficult to see in the wild. He spends hours kicking the dirt with his toenails. He gathers up the grass threads and shakes them free of the abrasive soil that would otherwise grind down his teeth. He gets six sets of teeth in his lifetime and when those are gone he will starve to death.
Description: The Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) does not survive in captivity and may only be seen in the wild in the mountains of three countries: Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are Critically Endangered, but their numbers are now at about 880 and slowly rising thanks to the tireless efforts of rangers, soldiers and others. The species first came to the attention of most of us through the work of American Primatologist, Dian Fossey. Fossey lived in the mountains, studying the gorillas from 1967 until her murder in 1985.

The back of the structure was left open to enable access for cameras and lighting. After the film crews departed, the hut and it's superb location on the Clear Hills became a mecca for 4x4 enthusiasts. But the rather flimsy construction proved inadequate to resist the alpine winter and soon started falling apart. Local 4x4 drivers banded together and commenced lengthy negotiations with local council and "green" interests who wanted the "hut" removed, the entire site returned to it's natural state and the access track closed. ...
