Description: The two headed eagle in European tradition has long been associated with divine terrestrial authority, having been increasingly viewed as symbol of the Roman Empire in the late classical and early medieval periods. In in the west the symbol would come to adorn the flags of the Holy Roman Empire while in the east it endured on the banners of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire. The image of the snake on the other is more commonly associated with deception, danger and even the devil himself. The design depicts the eagle defeating the serpent in a manner which invokes the early Christian symbol of the Ichthys (Fish) and simultaneously resembles a saintly Halo.

Description: A symmetrical and geometric depiction of a lantern adorning a staff. It is intended as a sigil that suggests light, knowledge and other vague stuff that i'm making up as I go. Like a alot of knowledge. It is attractive for its symmetry and elegant verticality. This is one of two versions of the similar patterns in which a lamp exists only at the top of the staff.

The quote reads in Latin; “Quod enim laicale ruditate turgiescit non habet effectum nisi fortuito. Sed opera sapientiae certa lege vallantur et in fine debitum efficaciter diriguntur.“ or in English; “For what a layman becomes turgid by his rudeness has no effect except by chance. But the works of wisdom are governed by a certain law and are effectively directed in the end as is due”. The quote emphasises the chaos of ignorance and the precision of wisdom. The quote is illuminated with simple ink depictions of abstract medieval scenes. Atop the column stands Roger Bacon himself.

The face of medusa herself was made in the style of a classical sculpture with a serene and beautiful expression. This partly for aesthetic reasons but also to better pay homage to the original myth in which Medusa's curse originates from her beauty, arrogance, and the jealousy it provokes in the goddess Aphrodite.

Wyrm's are a recurring motif in Germanic pagan folklore extend into later folk legends in Anglo Saxon and Medieval England. Legend has it that if you pet one after midnight it would eat you like any other time.

Description: An ornate snake head design rough made with the angular scowl of a viper in mind. This design came from the lengthily practise of snake heads for my Medusa piece. At the end of the process this was the most well realised design and the one best reconciled with my pattern style.
