Spitfire Mk.IX, 5J-K, Pilot Johnny Plagis. Johnny Plagis took command of No. 126 (Cat Gulf) Squadron in June 1944. He chose 5J-K because of the large letter “K” on its tail after his sister ‘Kay’ (Katrina) which was also painted on the port side. This is one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight spitfires MK356, an LF IXe, representing Johnny Plagis' aircraft which was LM214 and an LF IXc.

“Jumpin' Jacques” is a P-51D-20-NA and is part of the Hangar 11 Collection based at North Weald, England. The P51 Mustang is set against a glorious evening sky creating this evocative image. The Mustang was a United States Army Airforce World War II fighter aircraft. What made this aircraft unforgettable was the incredible top speed. This was due to the engine, an American made super charged version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin. Rumor has it that this iconic fighter inspired Ford designers after the war to name their new sports car after it.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Lancaster bomber set against a glorious evening sky. Canada is home to most of the surviving Lancaster bombers and home to one of the only two airworthy Lancasters, the other is in the UK. This Aircraft carries an emblem depicting the Victoria Cross awarded to Andrew Mynarski. On June 13, 1944, his Lancaster was attacked by a German night fighter. As the bomber was falling to the ground in flames, he attempted to free the tail gunner trapped in the rear turret of the blazing and out of control aircraft. The tail gunner miraculously survived the crash and lived to tell the story, but sadly Andrew Mynarski died from his severe burns.

Canada's Lancaster
In the summer of 2014 the Canadian Lancaster crossed the Atlantic Ocean for a tour of Britain with the only other airworthy Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. I never though I would see two Lancasters together and this opportunity will probably not be repeated. This is a digital artwork of the two Avro Lancaster bombers returning home at sunset, all photographs are my own work, combined to create this striking imag

Stringbag Salute, the Royal Navy aircrew salute on a flypast at RNAS Yeovilton with the White Ensign flying proudly. The Fairey Swordfish was given the nickname Stringbag, not because of its biplane struts, spars and braces, but because of the seemingly endless variety of equipment that the aircraft was cleared to carry. Like a shopping bag, it could carry anything!

A Digital artwork of a USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress flying low over the English Channel, “Almost Home”. The aircraft has severe flack damage to the port wing, the tip has been blown off and the port engines are burning oil. The tail has also been damaged with the rudder and tail gun turret blown off . Escorting her home are two B17s that have dropped back in support. This is my digital depiction using photographs of the only European flying B-17 Sally-B. It’s based on photographs of B-17s that made it home with flack damage that were beyond belief!

This image depicts an Avro Lancaster bomber on a mission with an almost full moon on a cloudless night. This was called a Bomber’s Moon because the moonlight would light up the target area almost like daylight. A bomber’s moon also reflects from the surface of rivers, making navigation much easier. Pilots could follow the line of a river to guide themselves to their targets, which was useful in an era of visual navigation!

The Jet Provost was also successfully exported, serving in many air forces worldwide. Photographed is a Jet Provost T5 XW324 that served with the RAF from 1970 to 1993. This aircraft now displays at airshows with the “Jet Aerobatics” display team.

A Consolidated PBY Catalina Flying Boat first flew in 1935 and was one of the most widely used seaplanes of World War II. During World War II, Catalinas were used for anti-submarine warfare, convoy escorts and air-sea rescue. This Photograph is of Catalina BPY-5A “Miss Pick Up” with lights on with a backdrop of dark storm clouds contrasting the white fuselage of the Catalina.
