Mugs
Description: Some of France's elite Algerian Zouave detachment goofing off behind the lines during the Great War. The Jordan/Ference Collection seeks to provide a People's History of the Great War by highlighting the contributions of colonial troops like the Zouaves, Black American soldiers, women, the Chinese Labour Corps, and other under-represented groups.
Description: Colonial troops are often forgotten during the remembrances of the Great War, and the Jordan/Ference Collection seeks to rectify this by emphasizing the contributions of soldiers who fought for the leaders of other countries, of Black American soldiers, and of women, the Chinese Labour Corps, and all others who suffered the hardships of war without recognition.
Description: Alexander Otto Fasser, a German-American immigrant and Yale-educated surgeon, forged papers in 1915 so that he could serve against his birth country in the Great War. In his work at the American Ambulance Hospital in Neuilly, he took 3D portraits of many wounded soldiers; this is from a scan of the only diapositive of one of his best captures.
