Description: The Westland Wyvern was a British single-seat carrier-based attack aircraft of the 1950s intended to cover a wide variety of roles. Apart from the cannons, rockets, and bombs usually carried by such aircraft, the Wyvern was unusual in that it could also carry a torpedo long after it ceased being normal armament on other contemporary aircraft. Another unusual feature was its contra-rotating propellers.

Description: A superb colour photo shot on board of the Royal Navy's aircraft carrier HMS Hermes in the 1960s. The photograph shows a landing Westland Wessex helicopter in the foreground of another chopper. This is one of many photo's that were taken by my father whilst he served on HMS Hermes in the 1960s.
