Close up of a white trillium. These spring ephemerals bloom in woodland habitat before the leaves come out. If the leaves as well as the flower are picked, the plant could die as it no longer has any means to produce the energy it needs to take it through the winter into another spring. The White Trillium is the provincial flower of Ontario. The trillium is slow growing. It typically takes seven to 11 years to mature. The average lifespan of the plant is 20 years. Close-up of spring Snowdrops. Snowdrops emerge from the cold ground as one of the first signs that spring is approaching. These delightful flowers are the first to bloom in the garden. They earn their name often blooming before the last of the snow cover melts away in the warming days of spring.

Point Prim Lighthouse. Located in Prince Edward Island, Canada, the 60 foot-tall brick conical tower has been in service since 1845. It is one of the few round, brick construction lighthouses in Canada. The lighthouse is open from mid June to Sept 30th for visitors.

Spring beauty. One of our prettiest and earliest-blooming wildflower is spring beauty (Claytonia virginica). Native to moist woodlands, sunny stream banks, and thickets in eastern North America, this low-growing plant has tiny underground tubers that can be prepared and eaten just like potatoes. Indeed, another common name for the spring beauty is the "fairy spud."

Happy Valentine's Day! I was cleaning out my closets when I came across these stuffed animals and toy blocks. Iconic Hollywood sign in the Santa Monica Mountains. A culture landmark overlooking Los Angles, California since 1923. It is situated on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills. HOLLYWOOD" is spelled out in 45-foot-tall white capital letters and is 350 feet long.

Vintage Elmwood pear crate from the Blue Anchor Brand California Fruit Exchange. I grew up on a fruit farm and we had 100's of these crates with graphics in storage to collect apples each fall. I was fascinated with the variety of labels on the crates from exotic far away places. This particular one is the last of the collection.

This floating leaf in a swimming pool caught my attention. The aqua colours of the pool make for a painterly abstract look for the single leaf. Interesting the small black flecks in the water are actually soot from nearby area wildlfres at the time,

There is something timely about an old shed. It has stored many items over the years and the green vines reveal that the doors have not been open for a while. What's inside behind the doors? Is it a vintage garden tools from the past? Perhaps an old farm tractor. The red patina makes a pleasant colour for wall art and home décor. Thanks for checking out my art page. Garden Weigela as a watercolor. I love the bright red colour of this flowering shrub in the garden. Weigela (Weigela florida) is an old-fashioned shrub that has earned new respect with a host of new varieties to brighten the landscape. These sun-loving shrubs produce trumpet-shaped blooms on arching branches in early spring creating an oasis of color that attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies to the garden. Forsythia bushes are among the first plants of spring to burst forth in flowers. Forsythia flowers precede their leaves, which means you get a good look at the blooms with no foliage to block your view. The delicate flowers are 4 lobed. These spring-blooming shrub knockouts are easy to grow and quite adaptable. Lasting a brief period before a spring rain drops the bright yellow flowers to the ground; enjoy the show while you can!

Discovered this rustic farm machinery abandoned in the woods during a fall hike in the woods. Hard to determine exact purpose, but it appeared to be a horse drawn hay or grain cutter.

The body of a cicada is similar to that of a violin or a guitar, in that much of it consists of empty, air-filled spaces that act like a resonating chamber and amplify the sound they generate.The loud noise we hear is the male’s mating call—females are silent. Each species of cicada has its own mating call, which can range from soft clicking to loud buzzing.The cicadas are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea, of the insects in the order Hemiptera. They are in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha, along with smaller jumping bugs such as leafhoppers and froghoppers. The dark-bodied Canadian Cicada can be identified by the yellow spots on its back.
