Celtic Cross, June 2019 The Celtic cross is a symbol of Christianity, common in Britain and Ireland in the Early Middle Ages, especially in regions evangelised by Irish missionaries during the 9th to 12th centuries AD . This example can be found in a woodland garden on a country estate near Bodmin (Cornwall, England) and is almost certainly the cross head only, originally it would have been mounted on a much taller column. The tall flowers behind the cross are of course the common or garden foxglove (digitalis purpurea). Date: 24th June 2019. Click here to view my Cornish collection.
