Blackness is a village on the shore of the Firth of Forth in Scotland. It lies within the council area of Falkirk, and the former county of West Lothian. The village originally served as a port for nearby Linlithgow (incidently, the town where I was born and grew up), with a harbour on Blackness Bay, an inlet of the Forth. As a port it was superdeded by Bo’ness, and fell into decline from the 17th century. The small village is today dominated by Blackness Castle, situated on a promontory overlooking the bay.

Newhaven harbour, on the Firth of Forth, was founded in 1504 by King James IV of Scotland as a royal dockyard. It became an important fishing village, famous initially for oysters and later herring. An indoor fish market was built here in 1896 and is still in use today. Newhaven is situated on the Firth of Forth, near Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. Date: 14th August 2008. The Forth Road Bridge at South Queensferry, Scotland at sunset in early August. Located 9 miles (15 km) west of Edinburgh, the Forth Road Bridge spans the Firth of Forth between South Queensferry and North Queensferry. When it was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II on the 4th September, 1964, the bridge was the longest in the world outside the USA. The bridge is nearly 1828m (2000 yards) long while its main span, of 1006m (3300 feet), is the tenth longest in the world; its towers are over 150m (500 feet) high. The deck, which carries four lanes of traffic with two walkways, is suspended from cables which are 5.9cm (2.3 inches) in diameter and composed of 11,618 high-tensile steel wires, giving a total length of wire of 49,280 km.
