A Thames sailing barge at the quayside in Woodbridge, Suffolk. These barges were once a common sight along the Thames estuary and the east coast of England. Being flat-bottomed and with a shallow draught they could negotiate the shallower areas of the Thames, its estuary and the tributary rivers. Woodbridge is a picturesque town on the River Deben in Suffolk. The quay area is full of photographic opportunities and in the background here is the old weatherboarded tide mill. Skipton, Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Barge The gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, Skipton is a beautiful market town with an award-winning high street and market, as well as a 12th century castle. At over 800 years old, Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and best-preserved medieval castles in England. For picturesque walks head towards Gargrave village, or if you're feeling energetic why not ride the Aire valley towpath route. A brilliant destination to soak up the history and sit and people-watch at the many eateries overlooking the Leeds & Liverpool Canal waterside. Tivertonian Horse Drawn Barge, August 2022 One of Britain's few remaining horse-drawn barges, on the Grand Western Canal, Tiverton, Devon, England. Date: 26th August 2022.

The River Thames sailing barge is a type of commercial sailing boat once common on the River Thames in London. The flat-bottomed barges with a shallow draught and leeboards, were perfectly adapted to the Thames Estuary, with its shallow waters and narrow tributary rivers.

The River Thames as it flows between the villages of Streatley in Berkshire, England to the south and Goring in Oxfordshire to the north. This is a break between the North Wessex (Berkshire) Downs and the Chiltern Hills known as the Goring Gap. This is the view looking west from the bridge. Moored on the left is one of the old Oxford College barges - now an events venue for the hotel on the river bank. To the right the Thames rushes over the weir, boats passing through the lock. Isis Lock and the turnover bridge on the South Oxford Canal

A sailing barge heading back to harbour under power after a day's work. Originally photographed off Blakeney Point with textures and tones added during processing to enhance the dreamy nature of the scene. Sailing barges or Thames barges were once the 'workhorses' around the coast of East Anglia and into the Thames estuary as far as London transporting a wide variety of goods.

A second chromosome discovered by Professors of Genetics Dans les Gènes – Geneticist – University du Siene, Paris Professor Sna Géinte – Geneticist – University Craic ar chanáil na Búille, Roscommon, This chromosome bears a striking resemblance to the lock keys or windlasses used on mechanisms on the British Canal Network so was named after them. From a distance the chromosome looks solid in length however under closer inspection it was found to have hollow sections along the long legs, which when combined with the B L W chromosome lock together making for a inseparable almost seamless bond. Our Studies found this to be most commonly found in people with a demonstrated affinity to inland waterways.
