Ease The Strain, Go By Train Number of views as of 23rd December 2017 = 980. Capture of a vintage British Railways advertising poster from the 1950s, encouraging people to travel by rail rather than by road. Trojan, Didcot, August 2021 "Trojan" is an 0-4-0 ST (Saddle Tank) locomotive, built in 1897 by the Avonside Engine Company of Bristol. She was originally operated by Messrs Dunn & Shute of Newport Town Dock and later by the Alexandra Docks Railway, also in Newport (South Wales). In 1923, the Alexandra Docks Railway was absorbed into the Great Western Railway and Trojan was allocated the number 1340. Withdrawn from service by the GWR in 1932, that certainly wasn't the end of the line for Trojan. She moved to the Netherseal colliery in Burton-on-Trent and then onto Alders of Tamworth in 1947, before arriving at Didcot in 1968. 7822 Foxcote Manor An ex Great Western Railway 4-6-0 Manor Class locomotive, number 7822 'Foxcote Manor' runs around its rake of coaches to head up the 12:15 service from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead on the West Somerset Railway, the UK's longest heritage railway route. The locomotive was built in the Great Western Railway's Swindon works in 1950. After being withdrawn from service in 1965, it was rescued from Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales in 1974 and subsequently restored to its former glory. Foxcote Manor is currently resplendent in all black British Railways livery. Date: 26th August 2018

Smart little steam train

Frisco locomotive 4500, aka The Meteor, on display along Route 66 in Tulsa Oklahoma. This beautiful locomotive was restored in the early 2000's and wears its blue and white Meteor livery.

Everyone loves to ride the rails especially on a steam train.

K1 62005 was designed by the London and North Eastern Railway, built by the North British Locomotive Company in their Queen’s Park Works, Glasgow as NBL no 26609 and delivered to the fledgling British Railways in June 1949. It was condemned on 30 December 1967 and eventually sold to a consortium of Viscount Garnock, Geoff Drury, Brian Hollingsworth and George Nissen on 30 May 1969 for the boiler to be saved as a spare for the K4 61994 (LNER 3442) The Great Marquess, which they had bought. No 62005 had only survived until then because it had been used for a brief period as a temporary stationary boiler on the ICI North Tees Works. The boiler was not needed for the K4 so the loco was kindly donated to the infant but ambitious NELPG in 1972...

The locomotive was restored in LMS Crimson Lake livery with gold leaf lining, letters and numerals, and is seen above as she was in 1946 -fitted with a double chimney and smoke deflectors.

The two Forth Bridges spanning the river Forth in Scotland. The Rail Bridge is on the right and the Road Bridge on the left. The Rail Bridge was opened in 1890 and looks set to continue for another hundred years or so. The Road Bridge was opened in 1964 and looks like it will need to be replaced in the next 10 years or so. The bridges are approximately 1.5 miles across. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro.
