Gambler Chassis Co. designed what would become one of the most popular new outlaw sprint racing chassis designs in decades in 1980. The chassis thoughtfully laid out to be both extremely rigid and modular for repair work or even customization. The success of the Gambler-based cars led to countless copycats and many of the original design features are now standard among modern chassis builders. While Gambler built sprint cars are long out of production, most of those they made are still tearing up the track and are hardly sought after by racers, so when one comes up for sale, it's safe to say that it doesn't stay on the market for very long.

The year was 1946 when a small hot rod shop opened up on Gratiot Avenue in Detroit and by 1960, they had expanded to half a dozen stores throughout Michigan and were known as the 'world's largest hot rod shops.' Unlike a lot of speed shops, Gratiot Auto Supply locations weren't just fronts for mail order dealers - they had hardware on the shelves, so no waiting for that new set of headers for your small block to come in from Los Angeles - they were in stock and ready to rock. From cross members and frame rails to cheater slicks and crate motors, they stocked literally everything a guy would need to build a car from the ground up, something no other retail store could come close to pulling off.

Jim Russell was a California slot car enthusiast who decided that the cars of the day could be greatly improved, and took it upon himself to make that happen. Jim founded Russkit in 1963, launching with his first product, called Russ-Coat, a polyurethane varnish to protect a car's finish from impacts. Next came a line of bodies, first made of fiberglass, and then much lighter vacuum-formed white styrene, which were an immediate success. Simultaneously, Russkit was developing their own line of chassis and motors, including the infamous "Black Widow" four-wheel-drive, dual motor chassis. Jim would go on to produce a wide range of products from controllers and licensed bodies, to tires and wheels, all from a 6,000 square foot Los Angeles.

Carello S.p.A. was founded in Turin, Italy in 1876, initially manufacturing traditional oil lanterns. Carello made their first electric headlamp for motorcars in 1912, and would soon become the number one supplier of OEM lighting products to Italy's auto industry. In addition to designing and manufacturing lights for Italian exotics, Carello was a leader in auxiliary lighting for high performance driving applications. From fog lights and driving lights, to extreme duty rally lighting systems, Carello was at the top of their game for decades, and could be found on the front end of race cars and enthusiast vehicles alike, lighting the road ahead.

The late '60s saw the birth of organized long distance desert racing, with the granddaddy of them all being the big 1000 event that started in 1967, with everything from trucks, dirt bikes, and buggies all competing at once. The course has remained relatively the same over the years, with about every other event being either a point-to-point race from Ensenada to La Paz or a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada. Air-cooled buggies were one of the easiest ways for aspiring racers to get in on the action, and in 1971, Rapid Cool made it even easier with their line of oil and transmission coolers designed to keep air-cooled engines and their mated transmissions cool during the extremes of desert racing.
