Located near I-35 and Highway 13 Country Driver's was a true mom and pop truck stop that hung on as long as they could until succumbing to completion from the big chains and their mega travel centers :(

This is the gist of 1986's horror comedy, Maximum Overdrive, which was set in and around the Dixie Boy Truck Stop and based on King's 1973 short story, Trucks.
Description: The naming of Deno’s 6 & 85 truck stop undoubtedly referred to the old two-lane highways this truck stop once served when it was built in 1947, which made it the oldest truck stop in the state. Located in Commerce, Colorado, just outside of Denver, the 6 & 85 wasn't a modern truck stop by any means and rather very old school. There weren't banks of diesel fuel pumps or even a mechanic on site - just a diner-style restaurant and separate bar surrounded by plenty of truck parking. Whether truckers were stopping off to grab a bite before hitting the road again or going to tie one on in the bar before sleeping it off in their rig, Deno’s was a go-to spot for truck drivers for decades, remaining popular right up until their closure in 2017.
Description: The Diamond Horseshoe Truck Stop in Laramie, Wyoming was a classic mid-20th century roadside stop that reflected the era when U.S. Highway 30 carried steady streams of cross-country travelers and truckers. Located just north of town before Interstate 80 rerouted traffic, it combined a motel, restaurant, lounge, and service station - essentially an all-in-one stop for long-haul drivers and road-trippers alike. In its heyday during the 1950s and 1960s, it was known for hearty meals and even what was then considered “exotic” - a Chinese buffet that stood out in the region, making it a destination for locals and travelers. Like many independent businesses, its fortunes declined after I-80 bypassed Laramie, leaving it to fade into history.

Aside from comprehensive fuel and maintenance services to keep the big rigs running, Phil-Town had 107 air-conditioned motel rooms, a modern coffee shop, and a full restaurant serving a complete menu 24-hours a day.

I grew up near Wilmington, NC, the filming location for "Maximum Overdrive" and have always been a fan of this movie, so it made sense to do a shirt in tribute to this movie and also as kind of a tribute to our local film industry.

Description: Pacific Intermountain Express (P.I.E) got their start in 1927 when the Lilenquest brothers began providing freight service in Idaho, running two Model A trucks between Pocatello to Idaho Falls. The company grew steadily, but P.I.E finally took shape after procuring three other firms and consolidating them in 1940. By 1946 P.I.E had 535 employees and was growing rapidly through ongoing acquisitions in the late 1940s and 1950s. In 1954, P.I.E became the largest hauler of petroleum products in the world. Service now extended from the west coast all the way to St. Louis and Chicago. By the mid 1960s, P.I.E extended service to the east coast through more acquisitions, giving them 67 terminals in 29 states.

Description: Hennis Freight Lines was founded in 1933 by brothers S.A. and H.L. Hennis of Mt. Airy, North, Carolina. When the Hennis brothers sold their trucking company to Shirley Mitchell in 1946, Mitchell moved the company to Winston-Salem and began his quest to become the largest individual owned trucking company in the world... and he very well could have succeeded. Hennis grew rapidly through acquisition of other lines, but unfortunately, Mitchell’s theory on maintenance was a little short-sighted. He thought it was better to buy new equipment, rather than repair the old. This led to a lack of common parts, with little or no parts inventory, which left Hennis trucks stranded all over the system when they broke down.
Description: Los Angeles Seattle Motor Express (LASME), began with the partnership of two trucking companies in 1932. The companies were Hendrix Refrigerated Truck Lines, located in Seattle, and Los Angeles Seattle Motor Express. The two companies merged and continued under the name of the latter company. The company was purchased in 1949 and the new owners did not share the lofty expansion ambitions of many other trucking companies of the time, and instead, LASME focused on their namesake west coast corridor, though the company did successfully extend their reach into Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1968, LASME was merged with DC International and T.I.M.E. to form T.I.M.E.-DC, the Los Angeles Seattle Motor Express name was no longer used.
