Description: Scarabeus Dung is inspired by dung beetles. Dung beetles are beetles that feed on feces. They are well known for their dung-rolling behavior revered by Ancient Egyptians as Khepri rolling the sun across the sky. Some of the ball-rolling species are nocturnal. For them, a 2003 study revealed that guiding light can ripple from the moon and even the Milky Way.
Description: Sakura Mantis is inspired by the anatomy of the orchid mantis and the cherry blossom. Orchid mantis is one of several species known as flower mantis, a reference to their unique physical form and behaviour, which often involves moving with a “swaying” motion, as if being “blown” in the breeze. In Japanese culture, the falling petals of the cherry blossom symbolize transience, beauty, and the fleeting nature of life.

Description: The Ainu are an ethnic group of related indigenous peoples native to northern Japan. Their ceremonial robes are decorated with beautiful geometrical patterns. They believed that these patterns warded off evil spirits, and protected the wearer. My illustration was inspired by their traditional crane dance.
