Wurtherington, Diary, art by Duy Truong. This is our second bedtime scene and Duy Truong has created another marvelous piece of art that is simply stunning. In this scene, the reader can see that Polly, the loveable vulture, has joined the group. Duy has gone all out with this drawing (as she always does) and has all the little touches that make this painting magical. It is bedtime now. I have Zeke and Cedric tucked in doll-size beds in opposite corners of the room. I discovered that they tend to keep each other awake when they are too close together. Polly stood outside the window looking so forlorn all by herself; it was clear to me she wanted a sleeping place with us. I told her she could sleep at the foot of my bed and I would ma...

Tammy and the California Gold Rush: Art by Duy Truong. We decided to do a test run and soon we were all flying around Kira. We found ourselves over Sakuna, the home of the Kakuna elves. I could see they were happy to see us flying overhead and decided to land in the center of the village. Chief Wanakuka and his wife, Lanacua ran down the balcony to greet us. They were amazed to see all of us flying upon Polly. She was a hit among the Kakuna and a large crowd gathered to admire her. Polly, of course, loved every minute of it. Lanacua said, "You must stay and have a luncheon with us." Zeke and Cedric were hungry ( they loved to eat all the time) and we agreed to stay. Picnic tables were set in the middle of the square and we found oursel...

Wurtherington, Diary, art by Tenda Spencer Fantasy I said, "Open Sesame!" as we flew out of the cave of Ali Baba and toward the palace. We raced across the desert landscape that soon turned to emerald green as we passed over an oasis lush with bubbling springs and leafy palms. Tall minarets sprouted like grass over a splendid city that sprawled endlessly toward the horizon. We quickly found the palace that stood majestically near the center. Mina pointed the way to a balcony high up near the peak. We landed on a cool stone-floored foyer with bubbling fountains, metal tables, and scarlet parasols.

Tammy Meets Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. A wave of water swept over us. Seconds later we found ourselves settled in the palace garden in Capira where apple blossom drifted lazily in a cool autumn breeze.

Art by Tenda Spencer ( from China)......The Wurtherington Diary: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: By Tenda Spencer. "Over here, mates!" he called to us. We stepped through the door and saw that we were floating in the sky with a gigantic submarine hovering over our heads. I imagined that something terrifying dwelt inside it and would come after us. Zeke and Cedric flew up to the deck while Alfred and I stood on the dock. Zeke stomped around on the deck as though he were an admiral. He said, "Yoo-hoo, is anyone home?" He began knocking on the hull. "Yoo-hoo!"

Art by Duy Truong Tammy addresses the members of the second Continental Congress. I stood beside him in the center of the hall. "Thank you, Thomas Jefferson and good persons who have gathered to sign this historic document. I can stand here as a humble ten-year-old child and tell you that this may very well be the most important moment in the birth of a new nation. Of course I am honored to be here with you and will speak for the future generations that will benefit from your courage in affixing your signatures to the Declaration of Independence. I understand that you do all of this with regret only because of the injustices that have been thrust upon you. In that the injustices that continue to flow across the Atlantic seem to becom...

July 14, 1774 Dear Diary, Lucinda gave me a jeweled necklace that gave us the power to travel back in time and sent all of us to London to correct the space-time continuum as best we could. She said that she could watch over us with her crystal and we could talk to each other as long as I wore the necklace. Alfred could time travel, but only as a mouse. He said he found it humiliating to be reduced to such small stature. He grumbled about it from time to time. Cedric and Zeke were delighted that they could be at my side while we tweaked with history.

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. Zeke liked the idea. "I'm hungry," he said. "Maybe we can beg for some scraps to eat." Cedric sniffed the air. "I smell something good cooking back there." We knocked on the back door and an older woman answered. I had told my associates to look a bit forlorn and hungry. "Pardon me, mum." I said. "My pets are hungry and I have no food." She looked at the forlorn mammals that had their tongues hanging out. Zeke went a little too far and acted like he was passing out and fell to the ground gasping for water. "Water! Water! I must have water...." Cedric did well. He fanned Zeke with his feathered hat while he cradled his friend in his arms. He looked up to the lady wi...

Wurtherington, Diary, art by Tenda Spencer. Tenda spent several months perfecting this lovely piece of art. Ali Baba and a trio of ruffians jumped off their steeds and ran up to the door. Ali Baba grabbed the jewelry out of her hand. "Your jewelry or your life, fair lass." "Please, Ali Babalet us be!" said Mina "En Garde you dastardly villains!" said Cedric as he flew about the room slashing this way and that. We began a furious battle with Ali Baba and his men. The towering Ali Baba shouted, "HOLD IT! THAT IS ENOUGH OF THIS! I will spare your lives for a kiss from such a fair maiden such as you." Mina said, "Very well, Ali Baba. I will give you my kiss and then you must be on your way." Ali Baba swept her into his massive arm...

The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy meets Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: Art by Tenda Spencer. An enormous arched doorway appeared at the base and the scorpion took us inside. It closed behind us as if by magic and then we could feel the structure descending deep within the Earth. We stopped moving downward and then the door opened up to reveal a long corridor that led us even further beneath the surface. The narrow tunnel opened up to reveal an underground city of immense proportions. There was a vast labyrinth of tunnels and pathways with elves scurrying all about. Strange creatures were everywhere going this way and that. Scorpions appeared to be a part of it all as they were busy hauling carts and carrying rocks while elves sat in smal...

The Wurtherington Diary: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: Art by Tenda Spencer We were hurled to the bottom of the ocean and then high up into the air. We pitched over the side of a mile high waterfall and back into the water. We all cried, "Help!" and figured we were about to drown. Water was pouring in from the walls and we were sinking at an alarming rate. I peered out the window and a hungry whale was headed straight for us, apparently happy to find some unexpected tidbits to chew on. Zeke and Cedric took one look out the window and shivered in terror. "We are about to be lunch!" they shouted as the whale took a leap into the air and lurched upon us!

Dear Diary, A three day holiday was declared by the king and queen. The next morning, Mansa Musa entered the city with his entourage. Ali Baba provided his prized steeds to lead the event. It was a magnificent spectacle worthy of a great king. The parade of North Africans stretched for miles and flowers were thrown to him from the balconies as they passed by. He tossed gold coins to the cheering crowds who would never forget the day that became a legend for the next millennium. Behind him followed the elves mounted on the enormous scorpions. While Mansa Musa would return to Timbuktu, the elves would make a home here and live quite happily ever after. Ali Baba and his men were last to enter the city. No longer would they be called thi...

Art by Duy Truong................ Tammy meets William Tell ( The Wutherington Diary).......................... Quickly, the gate opened and the villagers raced through it and began battling the soldiers. Arrows were flying all about and soldiers were dropping from the turrets like hail. It was over quickly. The villagers had captured all the soldiers and stood in the middle of the compound grateful that they had won so easily. Baumgarten came down a stairway. He held the bloodied head of the sheriff at his side and held it so all could see. "The sheriff is dead! My wife is a'enged! He will hurt no one from this day!" Art by Duy Truong, Tammy meets William Tell ( The Wurtherington Diary) The men carried their crossbows and gathered at a target range near the river. They had set up a target on a sandy beach that stood about fifty meters off. Everyone took a turn at it. Most everyone hit the target and two had found the bull's-eye. William Tell was the last to shoot. He tested the wind with his finger, then unlatched the trigger of the crossbow. The arrow sailed across the beach and struck the center of the bull's-eye. "Hooray!" they yelled. It was agreed that William Tell was the best marksman of the village. The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I asked Polly if she wanted to be big and give us a ride to Sacramento. "Caw, caw, caw!" I said, "Turn around three times and close your eyes And soon you will be close to the skies. Make that which was small, Grow and be so very tall. Alakazim, Alakazam!" She did the turnaround and Polly became as large as ever. We hopped on Polly and flew high overhead and followed the road. We could see a quintet of bandits robbing the stage and running off with the strong box. We circled a few times as I wanted see where they were going.

I said, "I am so proud of you, Mad Dog Zeke. You took care of bad guys left and right." "There was nothin' to it, mum—glad to oblige." He unfolded one of the No shootin' posters and handed it to me. I pinned it to the wall. I smiled. "Those are two of the toughest lawmen that ever roamed the West." I tucked in Polly. "I was so very proud of you, Polly. We are so lucky that you are a good bird and can fly us around huntin' down all those bad cowboys." If she could have smiled, she would have done so. How can one tell if a bird is smiling? He...
