The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong. I remembered the Liberty Bell housed in the tower. "I found a bell not far from here. I was told that it had a crack in it and that it has been repaired. Now you are afraid to ring it because it may crack once again. I say we go out and ring the bell of liberty and let freedom ring as it has never rung before. If it should crack again, I say we let it be, as it will remind future generations that we were not afraid to ring it and would not let a little thing like a crack in a bell or a king on a tiny island sway us from our resolve." "Hear, Hear!" With that we all pushed through the door and climbed the staircase that led to the Liberty Bell. Everyon...

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. February 18, 1848 Dear Diary, We rode the stage back to Coloma that afternoon. Posters of Rattlesnake Cedric, Mad Dog Zeke, and me were posted up and down the road with warnings not to fire a gun in the town. The voting was closed and Judge Slade was busy counting the ballets on the boardwalk. A banjo player sat on a barrel and sang a song to a tiny gathering of children. "Mad Dog and Rattlesnake were the meanest deputies of the West. They carried no guns because they were quicker than the rest. They carried skillets and they would whack you on the head. Bandits learned to run from them; otherwise they were dead!" Mad Doggggggg! Rattlesnaaaaaaake! ...

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. Later, an older woman took me aside. She said, "Ma Parker is taking care of three little orphaned children in a tent outside of town. She takes in children and treats them as though they were her own. She has a heart of gold, and needs help keeping up as she has no money." Alfred said, "We could give her money if that would help." "No, that will not do," she said. "She is a proud woman and would not accept charity." I told her I had an idea and would take care of it. Zeke said, "We must do something." Zeke was an orphan, one-of-a-kind and knew what it was like to be alone. We walked to the edge of town and found her tent. She was busy washing the hair of a l...

The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong and Nour Hassan. I took my seat at the breakfast table alongside my step brother, Mark. Lord Wixby gave me a kiss on the cheek as he always did and Aunt May served up steaming porridge and buttered toast. Soon Mark and I were off to school and we were interrupted by a group of armed soldiers that marched up the street in grand fashion. While we waited for them to pass by I mentioned to Mark that this was most unusual. I figured that they may have been preparing for a parade; however Mark looked at me strangely. “They pass by here everyday,” he said. “Where have you been?” He indicated with a gesture to the head that he thought I was tiny bit daft.

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I asked Polly if she wanted to be big and give us a ride to Sacramento. "Caw, caw, caw!" I said, "Turn around three times and close your eyes And soon you will be close to the skies. Make that which was small, Grow and be so very tall. Alakazim, Alakazam!" She did the turnaround and Polly became as large as ever. We hopped on Polly and flew high overhead and followed the road. We could see a quintet of bandits robbing the stage and running off with the strong box. We circled a few times as I wanted see where they were going.

The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. Alfred said, "I'll go with you and keep my mouth shut." He hopped upon my shoulder. We were halfway up the steps that led into the Sourdough Saloon when we were pushed back by four cowboys that were busy throwing a helpless citizen into the street. "'Stay out and don't come back!" said one of them as he tossed his hat into the muddy street. We helped him to his feet and handed him his hat. "Thank you, little girl. I'm Will Endicott. I'm going to git my gun and come back here."

Wurtherington, Diary, art by Duy Truong. This is our second bedtime scene and Duy Truong has created another marvelous piece of art that is simply stunning. In this scene, the reader can see that Polly, the loveable vulture, has joined the group. Duy has gone all out with this drawing (as she always does) and has all the little touches that make this painting magical. It is bedtime now. I have Zeke and Cedric tucked in doll-size beds in opposite corners of the room. I discovered that they tend to keep each other awake when they are too close together. Polly stood outside the window looking so forlorn all by herself; it was clear to me she wanted a sleeping place with us. I told her she could sleep at the foot of my bed and I would ma...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. Zeke liked the idea. "I'm hungry," he said. "Maybe we can beg for some scraps to eat." Cedric sniffed the air. "I smell something good cooking back there." We knocked on the back door and an older woman answered. I had told my associates to look a bit forlorn and hungry. "Pardon me, mum." I said. "My pets are hungry and I have no food." She looked at the forlorn mammals that had their tongues hanging out. Zeke went a little too far and acted like he was passing out and fell to the ground gasping for water. "Water! Water! I must have water...." Cedric did well. He fanned Zeke with his feathered hat while he cradled his friend in his arms. He looked up to the lady wi...

They had learned the first four letters of the alphabet from an ABC book Lord Wixby had given me. I was proud of them. After all, how many animals would ever want to read?" I imagine that all of us have found moments in our lives where a single step in a new direction changed our lives forever. Only in looking back can we reflect on what transpired since that moment. Most us can recover from a misstep and may well thank the Lord when we follow a proper path. For me it was a decision to become a Special Ed. teacher-- a decision made in seconds and set my life in a wonderful direction. When I stand at the crossroads of life and stand before the gates of heaven the gate-keeper may well inquire what I have accomplished, I will tell him I followed my heart and loved all those around me without reservation. Hopefully that will be my ticket to a new and everlasting peace. Reynold jay

Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong....... This is our first picture ( of over 400 ) that appears in the Wurtherington Diary..... As with many illustrated classic stories, it is a story with unique characters and deals with hope, determination, compassion, and much more. In the opening preface, Robert Landsbury discovers the diary in a shed on a newly purchased estate in River Fall, Ohio and passes it along to his associates. The diary is faithfully preserved for today's reader. In it, the reader will discover that a ten-year-old mute girl, Tammy Wurtherington residing in the Wixby estate is the author. She loves to make dolls in a shed out in back of the house. She lives with Lord Wixby and Aunt May in a lavish estate at the edge o...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong "Heave ho! Heave ho! Back to the sea you go!" The crew lassoed the beached whale and began dragging it back into the sea. While Captain Flynn directed his men with the task, long tentacles burst out of the water and wrapped around him pulling him in. "It's Nellie!" he cried. Others rushed to his aid and began dueling the giant octopus. It was a fierce struggle for all. It did not look good for the Captain and I looked into the Nellie's eyes and had an idea. I ran into a toy store and grabbed a red rubber ball. The clerk looked at me when I picked it up. "Captain Flynn will pay for it! I'll be right back." I ran to the shore where all the ruckus was taking place. I shout...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Jesse, Ty and Duy Truong. We strolled down the busy street. A lamplighter was busy lighting the street lights as the Sun would soon reach the western horizon. We wound our way back to the main gate and passed by the guards without any concern. Zeke and Cedric joined us and I told them they were heroes for rescuing us and gave them both a kiss. They flew off into the distance and returned with our bee friends. Soon we were flying over the beautiful lakes and rivers that surrounded Capira. Later, we passed over columns of soldiers and carts that lined the road leading to the Oxboar forest. I calculated that they would be there in a day. So far, everything was looking good. Catherine...
