Description: The Capitol Building in Washington DC. I think one of my favourite photos I took in Washington DC on a visit there. Construction of the Capitol Building began in 1793 under the watchful eyes of George Washington. Now home to the House of Representatives and The Senate The Dome is made from cast iron and weighs 8.9 million pounds. Well worth a visit ... The Visitor Center is the newest addition to this historic complex. At nearly 580,000 square feet, the underground Visitor Center is approximately three quarters of the size of the Capitol itself.
