Description: Punda Love Hearts ©Debra Martz The hearts are located on the Punda side of the Queen Emma Bridge, the arches of it which are seen behind the locks of love. The plaque reads Lock Your Love on the "Punda Love Hearts" by Carlos Blaaker. Perhaps the heart structures were strategically placed here to prevent lovers from hanging locks on the historic pontoon bridge of Willemstad, Curacao. If so, it seems to have worked. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved
Description: Rif Fort Curacao ©Debra Martz After walking a short distance from the port of Willemstad, is the Rif Fort (translated - Reef Fort). The fort is now part of Renaissance mall with the interior updated with quaint outlets featuring eateries and shops. Several stairways allow access to the roof with great views of Otrobanda and Punda districts plus St Anna Bay. As the exterior welcome sign indicates, it was constructed in 1828 with walls a foot thick and outfitted with 56 cannons and 27 arches to provide increased protection against pirates and enemies. In 1942, the Fort became operational again and was equipped with two 37mm-machineguns as part of the security for the Shell Oil Refinery during World War II. I have used m...
Description: The Stars of My Backyard - White Coneflowers ©Debra Martz Coneflowers attract a large variety of insects and birds. My backyard patch has been so busy with insects. The Skippers were the most numerous and several are on the flowers in this image though they blend in well with their color. Added some star flares in Topaz and softened the texture and clarity for a bit of a dreamy look in Lightroom. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved

Description: Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel by Debra Martz The Golden-mantled ground squirrel is a small squirrel like a chipmunk, with grayish-brown fur and two white stripes edged with black stripes. With that said, the first time I saw one of these at Briyce Canyon, I thought it was a Chipmunk. When I started trying to find out which variety, I discovered it was a squirrel. So four years later I see another one, this time in Chama New Mexico but knew it was not a Chipmunk this time. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved 20220915-DSC_4154-Edit.tif
Description: Sand Creek Bay Bird Blind Black and White by Debra Martz I've spent many many hours in this bird blind since discovering it after our move to northern Oklahoma in 2019. There are a few ducks out there this morning. BUT fall migration is spectacular when thousands upon thousands of Sandhill Cranes, Geese and Ducks of many varieties and shore birds arrive to spend some time here before moving on south for the winter. Description: Posing Turkey Vulture by Debra Martz There is a sidewalk and stairs along each level of the spillway that I walk while bird watching. Rarely are there birds on the railings with the exception of the Turkey Vultures especially during fall migration. There were 4 here together but 3 flew immediately upon seeing me. This one, howeve, decided to just hold its own spot which allowed me a few closeup up photos. Many of them flew before there was ample light for photographs. The light and colors are from the sun rising in the east highlighting the western sky and landscape. Description: Flower Fly by Debra Martz I was sitting outside at the campground taking a break from a day of bird watching when I started noticing some of the insects around me. Not sure the exact ID of this one; some type of Hover Fly I think which some of them are also known commonly called Flower Fly thus the title. Description: Majestic Young Eagle by Debra Martz For me, even at a young, sub-adult age, this Bald Eagle appears majestic. It became the highlight of a day of bird watching. We had decided it was time to head home but why not make one more drive by the lake area behind the cabins? What a great decision! We were turning right into the parking area and stopped quickly at the sight of this Eagle on the bare tree branches. I very quietly exited the truck and was so appreciative that this regal beauty stayed at the top of this dead tree long enough for me to snap about a dozen images. Description: Simple Elegance by Debra Martz Being near the water from just before dawn to 30 minutes after sunrise presented me with some of the most beautiful moments with the egrets I had ever seen. I watched as they skillfully hunted with new movements/techniques I had not witnessed until this particular morning. Those moves often showed me just how poised and graceful these Snowy Egrets can be! Description: Splash of a Landing by Debra Martz It is fun to watch Cormorants land and take off from water. They always make several splashes when landing and even more on take-off as they sort of get a running start. This was on take-off which I thought was cool with the circular splash made by this Double-crested Cormorant. Captured at the spillway of the Great Salt Plains Lake in northern Oklahoma. For enhancement, I added a vignette and some digital film grain. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collections: "Feathered Friends 3" "Digital Art Photography" 20211202-DSC_9804
Description: The Dog Bar Cachara Colorado by Debra Martz The Dog Bar is known as the "Heart and Soul of Cuchara" for good reason. They've been serving up burgers, pizzas and drinks since it was established in 1980 and this place continues to be a staple in the Cuchara Valley. Located on scenic byway 12, aka the Highway of Legends, it is just a short drive south of La Veta, CO. I've enjoyed some good food and good live music there. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved 20210915-DSC_4793
Description: White-Lined Sphinx Moth Wings Spread by Debra Martz The White-Lined Sphinx (Hyles lineata) are often referred to as the hummingbird moth beacause of the bird-like size, 2.5 - 3.5 inch wingspan, and flight patterns. Description: Bald Eagle In Flight by Debra Martz Just as we decided to call the day of bird watching done and pulled out onto the highway to head home, I spotted a Bald Eagle in a tree. We were crossing a bridge and as soon as we made it to the end we pulled off of the road. I jumped out and headed across the bridge by foot in hopes that it would still be there but it wasn't. However, I turned to look out over and across the river and saw it making circles in the sky! ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Feathered Friends 3" 20211202-DSC_9874
