Description: Ca$h Only - Fishing Boat by Debra Martz A few different thoughts passed through my mind when I took in the name of this working boat. Ca$h Only was how the owner paid for the boat. Ca$h Only was the way the owner ran the expenses of the operation. Ca$h Only was how the owner would sell the "catches of the day" to the public. Either way, I thought it was a clever name for a working boat in the fishing industry. ©Debra Martz
Description: Cumbres and Toltec Locomotive 488 by Debra Martz I've taken this scenic steam engine train ride from Antonito, CO to Chama, NM on several different occasions. It is a spectacular day filled with awesome views as you travel over high trestles, through tunnels, and along narrow shelves above deep gorges. At other times, while visiting Chama, NM, I've joined the enthusiastic "train chasers" to capture the train in action. I highly recommend the scenic ride but chasing the trains is tons of fun, too! The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad has five operating coal fired, steam operated, narrow gauge locomotives #484, 487, 488, 489, and 463. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved
Description: Pelican Togetherness by Debra Martz When North America's second largest bird, with an average wingspan of 9 feet, flies in a tight-knit group like this, I wonder how they do it with such grace! But they do and I enjoyed watching 1000s of them flying all over and around the Great Salt Plains State Park and the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge in northern Oklahoma during fall migration. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Feathered Friends 2" 20210929-DSC_6331

Description: Colorado Blue Columbine by Debra Martz This slender beauty of delicate flowers with bright colors is the state flower of Colorado. Description: South Padre Island Alligator by Debra Martz At my first step onto the boardwalk I spotted this gator; and it wasn't the only one. I had been here a number of years ago and only saw one alligator and it was when I reached the end of the 3500' boardwalk. The South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center is also a sanctuary for these creatures now. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Wildlife" 20220413-DSC_1924.NEF
Description: San Juan Mountains New Mexico ©Debra Martz I love northern New Mexico and traveling U.S.64 scenic byway over the San Juan Mountains of the Rockies is a favorite. This section is between U.S. 84 at Tierra Amarilla (7529') and U.S. 285 at Tres Piedras (8081') reaching a maximum altitude of 10,507 feet at the summit. I always take advantage of the many pullouts for scenic views! Not quite to the Brazos Summit but my compass showed 10,402' at this stop. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved 20220913-DSC_6754

Description: A Leisurely Day at Bear Lake - Colorado by Debra Martz This was the second beautiful mountain lake we discovered on FSR 422. As we hiked around the lake it appeared to be a wonderful place to come and relax in each person's own way. There were several fishing, some reading and a couple kayaking. FSR 422 is about 12 miles south of La Veta, Colorado on Hwy 12. Description: Black-bellied Whistling-Duck Trio by Debra Martz One just standing, one scratching an itch and one showing off its beautiful wing feathers. Always one in the crowd, right? There were probably close to 100 of these whistlers on a pond in the Estero Llano Grande State Park located in Weslaco, Texas only a few miles from the border of Mexico. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Feathered Friends3" 20220411-DSC_1338
Description: Tri-colored Heron Wind Blown by Debra Martz I had been watching one of these Herons earlier on the boardwalk for quite some time when decided I needed to move on ahead. I was walking out to a point observation deck when this one flew in and landed near me. Don't know if it was the same one or not but like how the wind was ruffling its feathers and the fact that it landed by that seashell. Captured at South Padre Island in south Texas. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Feathered Friends 3" 20220413-DSC_2091.dng
Description: Early Morning Arrival of Egrets by Debra Martz It's that time of year; fall migration of birds passing through northern Oklahoma. Camping at the River Road campground at the Great Salt Plains State Park is a great place to watch the birds as they start moving in early in the morning. These Great Egrets along with one Snowy flew in and landed directly behind our campsite at dawn, their white feathering reflecting beautifully on the water of the Salt Fork River. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Feathered Friends 2" 20211001-DSC_6487
Description: Tree of Vultures by Debra Martz It was the end of September and fall migration was in full swing. I go to the Great Salt Plains State Park quite often for bird watching and I've taken some photos of birds in this old, neatly shaped dead tree in the past. But this was the first time I had seen it outlined with the migrating Turkey Vultures. The New Orleans riverwalk runs behind the coffee shop and is a great place for sightseeing. Description: Roseate Skimmer Over Water by Debra Martz While out bird watching I often see other things of beauty in nature. I was on a deck adjacent to the trail looking for waterfowl. What a treat to see this dragonfly coming and going from this twig of a branch. Description: The two peaks are known as West Spanish Peak, elevation 13,626 feet, and East Spanish Peak, elevation 12,688 feet, and are located south of La Veta in southern Colorado. The area is known as one of the best examples of exposed igneous dikes. One such example is seen in this image close to center and running left to right. Dikes are formed when molten igneous material is forced into a fracture or fault before becoming solidified. There may be over 500 such dikes in the area. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Colorado"

Description: Lodgepole Pines Yellowstone Wyoming by Debra Martz The most common cone-bearing trees in this national park are lodgepole pines, which cover as much as 80% of Yellowstone. The name Lodgepole is derived from some American Indian tribs which used this tree to frame their tipis or lodges. At the Old Faithful Inn you will find log walls also made with the lodgepole pine. The dead lodgepole pine trees in the foreground, seen at the Fountain Paint Pot boardwalk, are pioneers that did not survive. These trees drowned when the nearby hot springs shifted, in addition, silica also penetrated the trees and hardened their bases. In the background, some succumbed to death by pine beetles. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Colle...
Description: Turquoise Pool Midway Basin Yellowstone Wyoming by Debra Martz After Excelsior on the left side of the boardwalk is Turqoise Pool. It is also where the Midway Geyser Basin boardwalk begins a loop trail. In 1878, the Hayden Expedition named this pool for its milky, white bottom and gem-like, blue-colored water. It is considered a hot spring with temperature 142-160°F ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved
Description: Cafe Du Monde The Original Coffee Stand and Band by Debra Martz There are at a number of location in New Orleans and surrounding area. This might be the biggest of the toursit attractions though with it's location along the Mississippi River Walk and a view across the street to the landmark, Jackson Square. And every time I've been to NOLA and came for the beignets and cafe' au lait there has always been a great band playing on the sidewalk! ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "New Orleans" "Digital Art Photography" 202220210512-DSC_4726-Edit.tif
Description: American Robin Fledgling by Debra Martz I had been watching a nest of Robins from my home office window and knew it was getting close to time for them to fledge. I was hoping to see them leave the nest but couldn't stay at that window, watching the nest on my neighbor's back porch all them time. But I was treated to have seen one visit my backyard. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collection: "Feathered Friends" 20220606-DSC_3744.NEF
Description: The Stately Great Blue Heron by Debra Martz A pose you will see often if you watch these Herons. They often stand motionless when scanning for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps. While they may move slowly, be assured the Great Blue Heron can strike like lightning to grab a fish, a frog or snap up a other prey. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved In My Gallery/Collections: "Feathered Friends 3" "Digital Art " 202220190415-DSC_4109-Edit-Edit.tif
