Steven Pesach Ir-Sahi (1896-1968) was a Hungarian-born Israeli graphic designer, painter, and typographer who played a pivotal role in shaping visual culture in early Israeli society. After making Aliyah from Budapest, he became one of the leading figures in Israel’s poster design. The poster is in the Bauhaus style and links the pioneer with the country’s development. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

Otte Wallish (1906-1977) was born in Austria-Hungary, and Ernst Mechner (1895-1956) was born in Germany. Wallish had a graphic design studio in Tel Aviv where he designed Israeli’s first postage stamps and many iconic posters encouraging Aliyah. Mechner designed posters for the JNF, Histadrut, Tnuva and others. They are jointly credited on many designs. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

He made Aliyah in 1906, working as a graphic designer and art teacher at Gymnasia Herzliya in Tel Aviv. The poster features clean, stylized modernist graphics, simplified forms, and a limited high-contrast color palette. It combines Jewish elements with the symbols of Carnival.
