Description: “A nation reborn on its ancestral soil.” Circa 1940. Published by the Jewish National Fund in the United States. Designed by Otte Wallish, Ernst Mechner, Public domain, via PPPA. Otte Wallish (1906-1977) was born in Austria-Hungary, and Ernst Mechner (1895-1956) was born in Germany. Wallish had a graphic design studio in Tel Aviv where he designed Israeli’s first postage stamps and many iconic posters encouraging Aliyah. Mechner designed posters for the JNF, Histadrut, Tnuva and others. They are jointly credited on many designs. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

He graduated from the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and was a graphic artist for Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael - the Jewish National Fund (KKL JNF.) This silkscreened poster was a recruitment/appeal to Jewish youth to support the establishment and defense of settlement outposts, by Keren Hayesod and youth movements. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
