Description: Spider and Its Web - Early Morning Light by Debra Martz Out in nature. early in the morning, I always seem to see/find plenty of spider webs. Often the spider is not there. That was not the case when I spotted this one just as the sun was rising. The early morning light was like a spot light on the spider. The sunlight hitting the dew on the silk of the web was creating small rainbows of color.
Description: Pink Bougainvillea by Debra Martz Now living in the mild climate of south Texas, I see Bougainvillea plants growing everywhere. It is, in fact, a colorful plant that is synonymous with subtropical and tropical areas around the world. The bougainvillea boasts masses of cascading colors to landscapes, walls, fences, patios and arbors. I was soon to learn that their color actually is in the form of bracts, modified leaves, that enclose its true and very small white flowers. There are so many varieties/colors that I'm not certain of the name of this one. Only that it is somewhat pinkish to peach in color. Thank you for looking at my images!
Description: Spring Cactus with Red Blooms by Debra Martz I'll be the first to admit that I do not know my varieties of cacti! I saw this cactus among a group of many other varieties at the Valley Nature Center in Weslaco, Texas...unfortunately no identifier for it. I found the blooms to be unique; and again I don't know if it is the beginning for blooming or ending! If you know which variety it is, please let me know in a comment. Thank you for looking Debra Martz

Description: Blue-Winged Teal Pair by Debra Martz This pair of dabbling ducks seemed to be content as that sat on this small section of a log preening and enjoying the sun on a warm Spring day. Description: Snowy Plover Reflecting by Debra Martz It is that time of year, 1st of November, when I start going to the beach in search of the winter migrating birds. Saw several varieties of gulls and terns, willets, sanderlings and though I only saw one plover, I was pleased to see this tiny Snowy Plover. They give you the run for your money...because that is what they do so well...run the beach back and forth, while quickly poking their beak in the sand in search of food.
Description: Beauty of an Iris By Debra Martz Saw this beautiful stand of irises and was wowed with their beauty. I can recognize an iris but when I tried to find a correct identity I was floored at the large number/varieties there are!!! I did narrow it down to beardless...about the easiest of the parts to figure out based on the images I found. Then I saw a group of Asian Irises and thought that was the ID but not. From there I discovered a variety called Iris sibirica and was pretty sure I had found it until I read it is often confused with Iris sanguinea. So yes, I'm confused. Whatever the exact ID, they are beautiful Irises to me. If you know, please feel free to drop the name in a comment. Thanks for looking

Description: Juvenile Cormorant Profile by Debra Martz Sometimes birds will cooperate and stay in an area long enough for you to get several shots...this was one of those times. An adult cormorant would be much darker all over. There are similarities in the Neotropic and Double-crested and sometimes hard to distinguish. But because of the more acute angle at the gape and not having dark lores I determined this to be a Neotropic. It would be much easier if they were side by side because of size...the Neotropic is a bit smaller. They dive underwater to fish and this one came back with a little twig of seagrass. They are a resident of SE Texas and further into Mexico and Central America.
Description: Luckenbach Texas Post Office by Debra Martz Luckenbach, Texas is an unincorporated community just a 10 mile drive from the popular tourist town of Fredericksburg (which originated as a German community) in the Texas Hill Country. Luckenbach is known as a great venue for country music. It consists of 9.1 acres situated between 2 creeks. Its oldest building is a combination country general store and a saloon which opened in 1849. It is stated that the first name was Grape Creek but more than likely Gap Creek which comes from German ("lucken" meaning gap and "bach" meaning stream). The population increased to a high of 492 in 1904 but by the 60s it was almost a ghost town. A newspaper advertisement offering the "town - pop. 3 - for sale" le...

It extends 1240 feet out into the Gulf of Mexico. It is a great place for fishing. There is also an open air restauarnt (just overhead from where I shot this image) so you can enjoy good food and the seabreeze. In inclimate weather, glass roll down garage type windows can protect you from the elements while you still enjoy a nice meal and view. Update: the restaurant is all that now stands after the last restaurant.
Description: Immature White Ibis at Sunrise by Debra Martz A great place to be for sunrise as many birds arrive at the pond to start feeding. If I lived in Weslaco, Texas, I would be on the deck at the Estero LLano Grande State Park as many mornings as possible. The sunrise adds a beautiful golden glow to the pond; combining that glow with the wonderful sounds of all the birds is a great, refreshing way to start the day!
Description: Spider Web With Pearls Of Dew by Debra Martz I arrived early one morning to the Estero Llano Grande State Park in Weslaco, TX. It started off very foggy / misty that morning and as I began to walk the trails in the park I noticed spider webs all around highlighted by the dew drops the fog had left on them. I had walked the same trails the previous afternoon and did not notice any spider webs!

Description: The Schandua Building - Fredericksburg, Texas by Debra Martz While walking down the very busy through street of the tourist town of Fredericksburg, I noticed antique hand knocker on an old door. That brought my attention to the the Texas seal marking this as an historic building. Later, when walking in the opposite direction and across the street, I had a better view of the Schandua building. Well, a better view of the upper level which was the residence. From the signage on the building: "Erected in 1897 of hand-hewn limestone, this structure was the home of John (d.1900) and Bertha (Klein) Schandua (d. 1943). They lived upstairs with their children and John's hardware store was downstairs. For a time, the Maso...
Description: The Schandua Building - Hand Knocker - Fredericksburg, Texas by Debra Martz While walking down the very busy through street of the tourist town of Fredericksburg, I noticed this antique hand knocker on an old door. Just above the knocker was the metal sign indicating this was once the entry to a private residence. Just to the side of it, on the exterior of the Schandua Building, was the Texas seal marking this as an historic building. From the signage on the building: "Erected in 1897 of hand-hewn limestone, this structure was the home of John (d.1900) and Bertha (Klein) Schandua (d. 1943). Description: Yellow-rumped Warbler at Water Spout by Debra Martz While hiking a few trails at Goose Island State Park in south Texas, I crossed a paved road and noticed a few picnic tables...good time for a break. But the best part was when I neared those tables, I realized there was a watering and feeding station for birds. Shortly after sitting down, in flew this migratory Yellow-rumped Warbler. When I saw this as a larger image on my computer screen I felt it looked like a painting, therefore I added a dry brush painterly effect.

Description: Linq Promenade - High Roller Ferris Wheel - Las Vegas by Debra Martz This is only part of what the LInq promenade has to offer and was new to me on my visit as it had been several years since I had been there. I knew I wanted to ride The High Roller Ferris Wheel, standing 550 tall. What I didn't know about was the promenade that you walk through from the Las Vegas Strip which runs parallel with the ferris wheel. It is an outdoor retail, dining and entertainment plaza, where The LINQ Promenade offers several different experiences all in one place at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Here you can see Ghirarde, Photos to Go, Cupcakes Ice Dream Cookies and the Brooklyn Bowl which has a restaurant, 32 bowling lanes, a section ...
