This wild abstract demonstrates the mystery that we cannot describe everything in words. Even pictures are not always enough. Sometimes you just have to experience it. Zoom in and explore.

What We Found (Transparent)
This is the transparent version of "Related Separated", the composition I created then divided like we dissect the whole Creation for control and manipulation. Most do not remember that nothing is actually disconnected. This art reminds us we are still part of each other and can come together. See its companion piece “Diversity Joined”.

Light Finds a Way
This is about that time between combustion and calm, attack and retreat. Many energies compete for actions of flaring up or peace. It is a time when wisdom is forged within us to channel passion for creation or destruction.

This poem contemplates the past, the moving present and the future. It is a hope and a faith statement with a prayer for all the details of life to work together for good purpose. Written in my personal devotions early in the morning, it's letters eventually became the grid for this collage of marks, and images of past moments with children, grandmother, beloved old buildings, ocean waves breaking on the rocks, my wife looking very tiny under a very tall tree among the rock walls of Zion National Park and other beautiful compositions which you will discover as you explore the intricacies of this composition. Partly hand drawn on paper, partly digital drawing, the composition experiments with layering, addition, subtraction, transparency,...

Life After
Early one morning I contemplated the epiphany of Moses alone in the remote wilderness tending his father-in-law's sheep. There he was attracted to the phenomenon occasionally seen when the heat of the desert causes a random bush to catch fire. Usually short lived, a thin filament of smoke would ascend and it would be over. But, this time the bush kept burning without being consumed and, on Moses' approach to the inexplicable, he began his life-long conversation with the Divine. As the scene played upon my spirit, I picked up my oil pastels and joined the conversation by making these marks. May you also enter the conversation as you live with this drawing.

Meditation on the Burning Bush
mixed media, pencil and digital painting Markings by intelligent beings reveal the soul expressed through the hand and tool. They have meaning beyond words, though they may be called "asemic" (without meaning). I assure you these markings speak of life from my soul to yours and it is in language that goes beyond what we learn in school. On your wall, apparel or objects it is evidence of the life we are all awakening to.

This poem has been incorporated into a play, a short story, a volume of poetry and now a metaphoric image. It is about the unexpected beginning of life when death is final. The power to overcome inevitable dissipation to nothing is shown in the churning universe giving birth to stars and humans even while destruction carries on. I offer these words and collage of images for your meditation and illumination.

You After All
I walked searching out the beauty where I grew up in San Diego beside this tide pool on the edge of the continent. Here is a moment in time when the shapes, lines and rhythms of life are frozen for us to contemplate. I am always awestruck to see the basis of all art in Nature, the lines that direct my eye, the shapes arranged in relationships which tug ineffably to something in my soul. I find the subtle and the dramatic contrasts between light and dark reveal building blocks of Creation and therefore a kinship between myself and the elements in this image. The faithful, long-term work of the water shaping the rocks gives me perspective on my place in time. The understated colors remind me of the confidence I can have to be who I am ...

Point Loma Pool
Mixed media of oil pastel, pencil, and digital painting. On April 24, 2017 my morning meditations led me to contemplate the transformation happening which makes where we have been merge with where we are going. Ponderous words of the old, dark ground have layered around our roots which generate growth up through a lighter atmosphere acknowledging where we have come from, yet reaching forward to the ineffable spirit uniting all things.
