Description: I’ve always loved Chinese egg tarts, especially the ones with the flaky crust over the ones with the crumbly crust. The egg custard is just delectable. Portuguese egg tarts are not so bad either. Whenever I go to an Asian supermarket, I have to resist the urge to bring some home. Anyway, here is another ode to a a Chinese treat.
Description: Food - Cantonese cuisine. Chinese Egg tart. 蛋撻, a pastry custard tart originating in the Guangzhou area derived from European pastries such as the Portuguese Pastel de Nata. There are two main varieties, the Hong Kong / Guangzhou such as those pictured and the Macau version which has a caramalised brown top. Egg tart dawn, tart rising on the horizon and reflected in waters.
